A 14-year-old teenager has been apprehended by Fayette County law enforcement after a high-speed chase that ended in a residential neighborhood.
The incident, which occurred on March 11, 2024, unfolded when deputies spotted a stolen Honda Civic linked to an armed carjacking in DeKalb County.
The pursuit ensued as the suspect, identified as a juvenile, accelerated away, leading deputies to chase after him.
Little did they know, the driver behind the wheel was a 14-year-old armed with a firearm.
Dashcam footage revealed the chaotic scene as the teenager sped through a residential area during school dismissal hours, causing havoc by crashing into mailboxes, yards, and multiple vehicles.
Witnesses described the intensity of the chase, with the suspect maneuvering dangerously, even driving through people’s yards to evade capture.
Ultimately, the pursuit came to an end when the teenager lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed.
Law enforcement officers swiftly surrounded the suspect, with one deputy seen in the video drawing his weapon and ordering the teen to drop his firearm and surrender.
Fortunately, the teenager complied with the commands and was taken into custody without further incident.
The firearm, identified as an AR-14 pistol with a high-capacity magazine, was recovered at the scene.
Authorities are currently collaborating with the ATF to determine the origin of the weapon.
Further investigation revealed that the juvenile suspect had allegedly carjacked the Honda Civic at gunpoint earlier in the day in DeKalb County.
Residents of the Fayette County neighborhood where the chase ended were aware of the seriousness of the situation, with one neighbor expressing relief that no one was harmed and noting the potential dangers posed by such reckless behavior.
The 14-year-old suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed due to legal reasons, now faces a variety of charges, including theft by receiving, fleeing, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Additionally, he is also expected to face charges in DeKalb County for his alleged involvement in the initial carjacking incident.
